"Mental health for young men"

There is a world wide epidemic of anxiety, fear depression and suicide that very few people are speaking about.
I talk to parents, teachers, social care workers around the world and they are all seeing the same thing.
They are very concerned as am I.
What will make a difference?

Within our society, our youth is struggling to deal with life.
The world has become a very complex place and levels of anorexia, depression, anxiety and fear are at all times highs.

I know what it is like to have depression, be suicidal, not want to be here.
Going to doctor again and again asking for anti depressants and feeling the shame of thinking you have failed life.
You have failed life. You are worthless. I know those emotions.
I know that space well and lived it for many years. I know that pain.
I know that hurt and can speak to that pain and . .  there is also other options and  possibilities open to you

Each person is totally unique and special. Here is some things that worked well for me.
Suicide does not have to be the only option and I do know what that feels like. Trust me- I know – I get it.

1. Spend time in nature

Nature is a great healer. Just bask in the energy of a forest or a beach. Let the earth hold you and let go of your worries. Fear is always in the future. It is not real and you are bigger and greater than fear

2. Take time away from the mobile phone.

It is great to be connected to the world and it can also be overwhelming,
particularly when your head is melted. Just turn it off – it does not have to own you. Social media was developed by a small set of engineers to sell products.
Recognise that and take a break from the phone.

3. Find what makes you happy

I have tried nearly everything out there you can imagine – interpretative dance, sky diving, tai chi, meditation, sports of all kind – you name it and I have probably tried it. I found the things that made me happy – surfing, swimming, tai chi, Yoga, Access Bars all work well for me. They work for me. It does not mean it will work for you. I do not have the answer. I suggest to get curious and see what pops for you. Try new things. Be brave. What is the thing that makes you laugh. You are totally unique and find your magic. What makes your heart sing ?
What is your secret sauce – only you know. There is a magical world to be explored.

4. Trust your body

When your body smiles it is happy. I smile alot when I ride horses.
Find what makes your body smile.
You are unique. You are special. You are a gift.
You are here to change the world- YOU MATTER

5 . Find some one you can talk to

Look for some one who will listen and not judge you. Some one you admire in some way. Share what is going on for you. I know it takes courage and it will make such a difference. Ask for that person that will listen.

Valuing you and having ease with your mental health
